Studios, shops
and restaurants.
There are more than 130 studios, shops and restaurants located inside PMQ. For the studios and shops, there are more than 100 designers and artists and most of them are the local designers. As we observed, most of them were selling designers or man-made works such as jewelry and clothing such as "Hak" and "The Little Finger". Very few of the studios were working on craftsmanship such as "SOIL" working on potter. Besides, few were gallery or exhibition studios such as "ART PROJECTS GALLERY". The studios and shops were well-decorated and stylish in which each of them were unique. Hence, we also discovered that some units were left vacant or under-construction.
For the food and beverage, there were over 10 working on catering but most of them were in western style such as Cafe, bakery, British or Spanish cuisine which were the fine dining restaurant. Most of the customers were foreigners and the price of the food were relatively high. Besides, there was one restaurant branded itself as selling traditional Hong Kong style food which was "Tai Lung Fung". The decoration and the dining utensil used was refer to the "old HK" [1] and this gimmick could attract tourist.
Fatina & Chefo, EAT & PLAY and Chocolate Rain was an example of mixed used of catering and shop. Chocolate Rain as a Hong Kong local brand and it was popular especially among the young working class. The combination could attract tourist and promote its brand at the same time.
